Dare I say a new horror classic. Curry Barker has the sauce and I’ll definitely be watching whatever he makes next. This honestly reminded me of my stalker ex-gf and was kinda triggering, which I guess is a compliment.

Stylish, vibrant, grimy, gory, humorous, retro, fun, boring, messy, kinda bland, forgettable, well-acted, and pointless.
While I appreciate the homage to the giallo/slasher/satanic panic film aesthetics of the 80’s, something about this just didn’t land for me like how X (2022) and Pearl (2022) did. MaXXXine felt rushed and overproduced, gimmicky to where it feels a bit forced and is ultimately just kinda mid. Easily, my least favorite of the trilogy.
Kevin Bacon was fun and a lil goofy but all stars…
Cruel, gory, gross, violent, gruesome, familiar, creepy, intense, disturbing, dark, nightmarish, grim, brutal, bloody, well-acted, well-made, and unforgiving.
Possessed films are a dime a dozen but this felt fresh with a slight nod to the classics. All of the gore and practical effects are top notch and it doesn’t hold back in the no fucks given department. One of the best horror movies of 2023.
