Ever since I was a child I adored this film. In my early years I always considered it the best film I had ever seen. And even now, years later, I still think it's the best film Disney ever made.

Here's why I loved and still love this film:
Jim being left by his father and raised only by his mother was something I had never seen before. It felt refreshing to see this single-parent family and in contrast to the more classical films I used to watch as a child, where there is this happy family with a father, a mother and some kids this one felt relatable. Don't get me wrong I still love those films, but Treasure Planet had a kind of appeal (based on me being able to identify with Jim) to it which was new to me at this point. Besides being relatable to me, the film just looks fantastic (designs and graphic style in equal ways) and sounds equally as good. James Newton Howards score is perfect for both the futuristic and the more classical, pirate themed, parts and designs. Of course the story in itself is pretty standard, this kid goes on an adventure and learns to overcome his fears and insecurities, but the world depicted in this feels believable and makes you want to explore more of it (Give me the damn sequel Disney!). Besides, what else do you wish for in a film for the whole family and especially young boys than an adventure story with great characters and worldbuilding accompanied by perfect animation and sound. Overall it's a really great film for young and old, considering myself (19 years old at this point) as old and will always have a great spot in my heart.
