A commercial for "KILLER" jeans.
Slaxx is about a possessed pair of jeans terrorizing trapped workers at a trendy clothing store.
Slaxx fits firmly when it comes to exploring the genre troops of a slasher flick, delivering some horrifying and gruesome deaths with a hint of humour here and there.
And at the same time takes a jab at the hypocritical work ethics and morals of big businesses and people working in such firms at higher positions who would go to any extent to fulfil their ambitions.
But slaxx sort of iches a bit when it comes to blending both these subjects properly, having said that it's still an entertaining flick that delivers well as an indie with a shorter runtime.
come for the killer jeans dismembering exploitative capitalists and stay for the footage of behind the scenes pants puppeteers in the end credits
Slaxx feels like a lazy mixture of Rubber and In Fabric, another two notable entries of the muderous-object sub-genre. Despite its lack of an original premise, Slaxx makes up for it with its rather unique and topical origin story of the evil force, which is probably the best thing about this otherwise cliched and juvenile satire.
Chronicling the overnight killing spree of a bunch of possessed jeans inside a shopping mall, Slaxx is never stingy with its gore, slashing and body parts. It's occasionally funny with its rather off-the-wall humor, from jeans dancing to Bollywood music, to survivors negotiating with the spirits over the loudspeaker. However, the end result still feels rather underwhelming, largely due to the cliched storyline and…
As successful as a movie about Killer pants can be. Here’s why:
- Under 80 minutes long.
- Primarily a satire on corporate culture.
- Each subsequent scene involving killer pants adds something novel.
Main gripe? NO ONE hits their head as hard as Libby did in the last scene. In a movie about pants murdering people, it is sad THAT is the part that made me scoff.
Would make a good double feature with Deerskin.
every shudder original is either a dorkass meta comedy-slasher or some boring as shit "normalize trauma" a24alike, luckily this is the first one but improved by being about JEANS! & kind of a dumb asylum-mockbuster of "in fabric"? having worked at a west elm in 2017 this does nail the post-obama corporate strip mall manager culture of gap/american apparel(RIP)/bennetton-type stores, tho besides a few details it also feels like a movie from 1997, for better (racial revenge angle im surprised a white director went with) or worse (a tiktok youtuber feels like a britney-era popstar instead of jojo siwa) a good-enough 2021 dtv/vod watch but mostly i was eyes-emojiing the schutzstaffel SS of the runic "super shapers" ass-pocket logo on the…
Killer inanimate object films are the dearth of cinema. Mostly because the joke is the object is killing people. Hard stop. Shopping carts are killing people!! Isn't that carayzzzaay!? Plastic bags are floating into people's faces and murdering them! That's nuts right? Plastic bags don't do that!
So I was pleasantly surprised that Slaxx, a horror comedy about killer jeans (I know, stay with me), is able to overcome this dreadful subgenre by making the reason the jeans are murdering people connected to a sociopolitical message about consumerism and globalization. Also it helps that the comedy parts are actual jokes that go beyond how funny it is jeans kill.
A film that connects the way corporations treat foreign impoverished workers…
Absolutely ridiculous concept that somehow works by pretty much committing to the madness of killer jeans munching on retail employees.
Apt skewering of the corporate appropriation of “new age” consumerism and while it shows it’s restricted budget in the plot limitations (why is everything happening in this one store during lockdown again?), everyone seems to be going with the slightly elevated reality the way SERIAL MOM or JAWBREAKER did.
Dug the way it was shot.
Also: gory as FUUUUCK.
This was more fun than it should have been!
I really enjoyed the bright, crisp color palettes paired with the over-the-top horror goofiness - which worked for the most part.
My main complaint was the ending - I definitely didn’t love it.... but it’s also a film about killer pants, so who cares.
If you were a fan of Bad Hair you’ll get some enjoyment from this for sure, I do think I enjoyed Bad Hair a bit more though.
This is exactly what I never knew I wanted out of a horror comedy about a killer pair of jeans. Jeans with a love for blood. Vampire Jeans...Veans!!!!
Action starts quickly as the film boasts a swift 76 min runtime. Gory, cheesy, and silly as all hell. The cast was solid but most of them were obvious cannon fodder. The titular pair of veans looked great creeping and slithering around on their own. The bloodthirsty veans also had a ton of personality, a solid origin story, and a genuine purpose!! This was fun shit man!! And the ending was pretty bleak and open ended. I'm in for a jeanquel!!👖🩸👖🩸👖🩸👖🩸
Finally found Slaxx and I am so happy I did, this was such a great time.
What’s there to say? It’s a movie about killer jeans! I was surprised by some of the kills and even the backstory wasn’t completely terrible either.
It’s bright, it’s comical, it’s absurd, it was
enjoyable. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for a movie to have some fun with.
A little side story, I started watching this at work on my break and a coworker and I had a decent back and forth:
“What the fuck are you watching?”
Slaxx, it’s a movie about killer jeans
“Oh…and why are you watching that?”
Why not?
“So you like shitty movies, you know there’s a movie out there about a T-Rex priest or something?”
It’s a Velociraptor and the movie’s called Velocipastor and yes I’ve seen it.
“You’re fucking ridiculous”
