i wish dakota johnson would read little women in an australian accent like that to me also great movie i cried a lot
Gabriela Cowperthwaite's OUR FRIEND is a tender, cathartic tearjerker told well with wit and heart maybe imperfect but it pulls all the right strings, based on author Matthew Teague’s Esquire essay 'The Friend: Love Is Not a Big Enough Word'. Gabriela took the familiar end-of-life cancer drama and transformed it into something knowing, poignant & sensitive. Earnest performances lend depth & compassion to the characters, making them come alive. It features career best performance from Jason Segel, an always great Casey Affleck and even Dakota Johnson is strong.
Segel is an underrated actor and he should be in way more movies with much larger roles.
losing a partner is the hardest thing I’ve ever been through. it’s impossible to cope with. the grief will never go away, the trauma of knowing that death can come for anyone will never fade. this gets how fucking impossible and painful it is to realise that the person you love is never going to get better. I am lucky beyond words to have found a woman that’s made me love again, even with the intimate knowledge of the pain it can lead to. movie brought back a lot of memories of the worst moments of my life, and it helped me accept that while I’ll never forget or stop hurting, that I have to be grateful for the memories,…
A beautiful, heart-wrenching film about friendship and loss, though Casey Affleck’s face spends the entire runtime looking like a man who lost a staring contest with drywall.
I saw this in 2019 and now people want me to talk about it but all I remember is that I cried

Talk about an absolute shocker. There wasn’t a bone in my body that believed this film would be as impactful as it was. Maybe it was the final act, maybe it was the incredible cast, or maybe it was just the sweet nature of the story, but Our Friend hit me extremely hard. This film just got a release after premiering at a festival awhile ago. There wasn’t much chatter about it, but the rock-solid premise set us up for something interesting at least. After receiving life-altering news, a couple finds unexpected support from their best friend, who puts his own life on hold and moves into their family home, bringing an impact much greater…
More affecting than I expected because oh my goodness haven’t we all been sleeping on Jason Segel Dramatic (but still funny) Actor
OUR FRIEND had me crying within the first five minutes & the emotions only grew from there. A heartfelt true story about unwavering friendship, love & loss with three moving performances from Jason Segel, Dakota Johnson & Casey Affleck. Only thing holding it back from true greatness is the choppy narrative structure. Get the tissue boxes ready!
