Stilted, awkward, and disturbing; the Twin Peaks comparisons are inevitable. An intersectional mystery, made clearly and unapologetically for women (it's interesting to note the gender divide among my friends on who liked this and who didn't), this is a film that combines many of the qualities Jennifer Reeder used in her delightfully direct and slightly corny feminist short films.
Wrapped in fantastical elements, musical interludes, and neon lighting, it's an eerie expression of Reeder's ideas and influences. It's something flawed but special; we don't get films like this almost ever, not even in the era where "intersectional" and "diversity" have become buzzwords. For that alone, it needs to be celebrated, even if it doesn't accomplish the perfection those ideas deserve.…
Kind of like David Lynch’s High School Musical but nowhere near as much fun as that sounds.

So consistently off-its-rocker that the weirdness finds a harmony with the mundane, even deadpan trauma at its center. Very fun and strange.
FrightFest 2019. Wants to be a feminist version of Twin Peaks but fails. If I hear one more male mansplain how this is the most feminist film they’ve ever seen, I’m going to suffocate them in my vagina.
Looks nice and has some good things to say but I just couldn’t jive with this—For second rate great value Twin Peaks meets Rivers Edge fix ill just stick with Riverdale lol. Sorry.
The problem isn't just that this is copying the narrative and stylistic rhythms of Twin Peaks at a molecular level, huffing and puffing to effortfully do what comes to David Lynch as natural as breathing. The problem is that this is a Twin Peaks copy made by people whose exposure to Twin Peaks apparently consisted of watching a supercut of all the James scenes.
I would admire the scorching neon color palette more if it seemed to have any sort of aesthetic function whatsoever.
There’s a film that every so often hits you extremely hard, gives you a ton of goosebumps and makes you feel utterly wonderful as the filmmaker has connected with you in the way hundreds of films before have not. The joys of a five star movie, often rare but so very satisfying when you find one.
Jennifer Reeder has built an actual masterpiece with KNIVES AND SKIN, but one that will divide. I loved this film dearly however others hated it, the ratings this film will get will surely showcase this.
It made me laugh, totally absorbed me and made me feel for the first time since DONNIE DARKO a complete set of emotions for each and every character. I…
Remember Twin Peaks?
Remember Twin Peaks season two?
Remember when Mark Snow and David Lynch walked off the show for the middle ten episodes and the writers were all like "hey, what is the central quality of a David Lynch TV show?" and the other writers were like "oh it's gotta be that it's quirky af."
