If only the rest of the movie was like the first 5 minutes, this could have been one of the greatest horror films of 2020.
Indonesian horror is fucking dope and they've proved it with impetigore.
The movie is about a girl who visits her parents home to sell it that is located in a village after their demise, but the village is cursed as all the newborn babies are born without skin and in order to uplift that curse the villagers have to sacrifice this girl whose family was the reason that started this curse in the first place.
The narrative of this movie is investing and properly paced one never feels bored, filled with good scares and amazing performances and little to no jump scares impetigore has a lot of positives but for me, the biggest one was the dream sequence that was…
Excellent movie! From director Joko Anwar who also directed Satan’s Slaves which I have not yet seen but now after seeing this it is a must see! I got this recommended from the Girly Gore YouTube channel check out the channel lots of good reviews! This movie was very well made And never a dull moment! It is very dark and a awesome story! Check it out!
Well crafted Indonesian skinless curse folk horror jam from Joko Anwar has a lot going for it—opening with an unnerving scene before shifting to a small, secluded village that illicits the kind of swampy bayou vibes that swampy bayou movies seldom pull off, totally sucking me in for a journey that feels like an Indonesian riff on rural fulci/cursed village shit meets The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (especially the ending) and that’s a huge compliment coming from me.
The film looks great, features a score I really liked, interesting camerawork, and above average performances throughout—it’s deliberatly paced as well, which I’m a fan of as far as mood building goes but that second act drags a bit and gets a little…

Prompt 20: Stay Out of the Woods - Forest & Wilderness Horror
What a great supernatural folk horror film! The story had some inspiration from modern day feminism, while its roots were in old world Indonesian family traditions. In this case, the main character Maya goes into the woods to find her family’s home, & hopefully discover more about her history. As could be expected, things do not go as planned.
I particularly liked the portrayal of female friendships, & young women looking out for each other. Also I thought the dialogue was written well. It seemed naturally real & also culturally specific - both made the story even more engaging.
IMO this had the perfect amount of gore. Respect for the practical effects!✊🩸
Take away - once evil is conjured up (metaphorically or otherwise), there really is no getting away from it, no matter how fast anyone runs!
Another highly effective Indonesian horror film from Joko Anwar! Impetigore starts with a bang, and then moves into the main plot - which sees a young woman seeking out her ancestral village in the hopes of inheriting a big house. This film really makes the most of its setting - the isolated village where most of the action takes place makes for a brilliantly effective horror setting. The director augments this with with an unsettling score, which helps to instill a constant feeling of dread as the central mystery gradually unfolds. It is a slow burn, but just enough info is imparted to keep things constantly interesting. I absolutely the main plot line here - it really doesn't pull any…
I liked Satan's Slaves well enough, but this is a huge step forward. The camerawork in this movie is so well crafted and goes along perfectly with the scares. The ruthlessness of the directing to give no relief to the viewer with threats coming from both the townies and the supernatural is brutal. The score is insane.
There's a new master of horror on the scene and his name is Joko Anwar
so glad i stumbled upon this i haven't been this invested in a horror film in so long!!!! the exposition got a bit clunky but overall it was pretty strong and i was HOOKED
Asu.
I held my neck four times. Omg.
The opening scene is the best! Unfortunately I'm not a fan of the ending (approximately the last 30 minutes). It's not Jokan at all. It's beyond my expectation. Though I was hoping it would be even crazier and wow me so bad again....
Ario Bayu's hot scenes :v
