Fail Safe
★★★★★ Watched

Holy shit. One’s a satire and one is absolutely serious, and Fail Safe beats out Dr. Strangelove for me. Some of the comedy in Dr. Strangelove doesn’t land hard plus it’s serious topic caused more fear to arise in me. This is where Fail Safe wins the day. It’s a brilliant thriller with sumptuous evocative cinematography. Conversations about nuclear destruction, how America should conduct itself in the ever changing landscape of the Cold War, are intelligent and passionate with the…

Eddington
★★★★½ Watched

We did it Joe! Ari Aster’s searing indictment of America leaves no one safe. Second to his fever dream third feature Beau is Afraid, Eddington is the most daring of his work, continuing his streak of divisive films. We had films about or featuring Covid during Covid, but Eddington is the first film to take everything this country was in 2020 and put it all on screen. Eddington shows who we were and who we still are as Americans, as…

QT was on one because The Rip is perfectly serviceable.

Jackass: The Movie

With social media now you could watch hundreds of people do stupid…

Bros

I’m elated to say that we have a great studio comedy in theaters right now. Bros is everything I knew it would be. A milestone for inclusivity by just being a hilarious, heartfelt story about two people falling in love. Easily the funniest movie of the year.

Billy Eichner is so goddamn funny and his script which he co-wrote is full of amazing lines that killed me. Luke Macfarlane I don’t know where you came from but please don’t leave.…

Censor

Sundance Film Festival: Film #1

Censor has great cinematography and use of aspect ratio and atmosphere. Niamh Algar as Enid gave a very good performance. I was a fan of where it was going with subjects on censorship, trauma and violence, but I think somewhere in the third act it got a little muddled. I’m on the fence with the ending. Overall a pretty good movie that left me wanting more
