Grrrrrrrrrreetings, my fellow horror enthusiasts....
It's that time of the year again! My ninth year in a row doing a horror marathon, my seventh year in a row participating in Hooptober, and possibly (hopefully) my third year in a row successfully finishing one.
Onto the rules!
There must be 31 films
6 countries
8 decades
2 insect centered films
1 horror film set in space or the future (relative to when it was released)
2 animated films
1 bloodthirsty old person/people film
2 1970s regional US films (Thanks Sean Young)
The worst horror sequel from the 1990s that you haven't seen and can access. (I realize that this will take a little work)
1 German Silent
5 Films from David…

All checked!
My year's list has been in the works for a while, I've been adjusting it on and off for the last few months - I'm still adjusting this as I type this. It was really, really difficult to limit myself to just 31 films this year, as this list originally contained well over 60 films at one point. I was able to limit it to 45, but it wasn't easy. I have a private list where I keep track of all the films I scrapped, most of them will most likely appear on future Hooptober lists.
As you can probably tell, the general themes of my list for this year are giallo, Mario Bava, Lucio Fulci, and Japanese critical darlings.
I surprisingly really enjoyed the Argento films I saw during last year's Hooptober, despite the fact that I really did not care for his Suspiria, which I watched years earlier. I think I've come to love giallo films, so I'm curious to see what the giallo films on my list have in store.
Related to this, I'm going to watch more Mario Bava, since his films have been a blind spot to me so far, and I'm giving Fulci another well-deserved shot. I've hated City of the Living Dead and The Beyond in the past, but I quite enjoyed his Zombie / Zombi 2. Hopefully his other films can still win me over. I don't have particularly high hopes, but they might be pleasant surprises.
The goal I set for myself at the beginning of this year was to watch more Japanese films, so naturally I've included quite a number of Japanese horror films that are very well regarded and I've been wanting to check out for a while now.

As always: Happy Hoopin'!
