This is a total waste—of money, time, and patience. With a slogging runtime of almost three hours, the film fails spectacularly at telling the story of Radbod/Redbad, the legendary Frisian chief. The only reason I sat through it is because I’m Frisian myself. That didn’t help. It was unnecessary.
Nothing in this film feels remotely plausible. Not the historical context, not the visuals. And let’s start there: boiled leather armor, untreated wounds, warriors charging helmetless into battle? That’s not historical authenticity—it’s cosplay with a mud fetish. Sure, Friesland gets its fair share of rain, but in this film, it pours constantly. Every frame is soaked in gloom: rain, black leather, dreadlocks, dirty fingernails, and blood.
It’s clearly trying to ride…
