Despite being the titular character, we don't really get to know Jeanne at all. We only get to view her superficially through her relationships to various men. She is never allowed to be her own person, we never get any insight into how she might have felt or what she might have been thinking. I really wanted to give this a higher rating because of all the things they did right, but the inconsistent color grading, odd choices regarding when to use cgi vs sfx and confusing wardrobe choices were too distracting. It seemed to have a hard time deciding whether to me a time piece or a modern interpretation. The story felt rushed at times but at other times too slow.
