This is a list of every film that was the shortest film for its ceremony each year at the Oscars. This list does not include non-competitive honorary awards. This list will only be using feature films.

Special Notes: There have been ten instances of films being nominated in the shorts subject but which are labelled as feature films here on Letterbox. These films will not be included on this list but they will be listed below:
- Man in Space (49 minutes) nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 29th Academy Awards
- Number One (42 minutes): nominated for Best Live-Action Short at the 49th Academy Awards
- An Essay on Matisse (57 minutes): nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 69th Academy Awards
- Killing Joe (41 minutes): nominated for Best Live-Action Short at the 72nd Academy Awards
- Dolphins (41 minutes): nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 73rd Academy Awards (On Tiptoes, the second shortest at 58 minutes, was also nominated for the Documentary Short category)
- At Night (45 minutes): nominated for Best Live-Action Short at the 80th Academy Awards
- Rabbit à la Berlin (51 minutes): nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 82nd Academy Awards
- Open Heart (54 minutes): nominated for Best Documentary Short at the 85th Academy Awards
- Joanna (45 minutes): nominated for Best Documentary - Short Subject at the 87th Academy Awards

Special Notes:
- All but one film have been under 90 minutes long. The only exception has been In & Out (90 minutes) at the 70th Academy Awards.
- 40 of these films have been under an hour long, making up 40.8% total.
- Only one of these films has been nominated for Best Picture. She Done Him Wrong (66 minutes) at the 6th Academy Awards is thus also the shortest film ever nominated for Best Picture. It did not win.
