A few assorted notes since it's late and I'm too tired to write a coherent review:

1) I wasn't really expecting this to be quite as... well, compassionate as it is. Every character in the film feels absurdly fleshed-out and possesses agency and interest regardless of gender or race (one of my favorite touches in this regard is how the early-film "suiting up" montage allows you to meet the main characters's families) and as a result you really start to feel scared for them. Trust, this monster movie is bangin. A bunch of hoodies cotch in the ends on Bonfire Night, taxing some gal but they're interrupted by this swag thing falling from the sky. Quicker than you know it, the lads find themselves in the middle of this invasion and big alien gorilla wolf motharfuckas start messing around. Believe.

Seriously though, this movie is loads of fun. It's not laugh-out-loud funny but it amuses nevertheless and it moves at such an alert pace that it becomes an exhilarating ride to behold.
