1st Academy Awards (Oscars 1929)

Honoring the films released between 19271928, the 1st Academy Awards Ceremony was held at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles on May 16, 1929. The ceremony was hosted by Douglas Fairbanks.

This year marked the only year in which the award for Best Unique and Artistic Picture was given. Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans received the award.
