Coming-of-age films take many forms. They can be traditional in the sense that they follow a specific tone, pace, feel, and aesthetic. They talk about young characters experiencing major life changes in which comedy and romance are blended into the drama.

Aside from these, there are alternatives that can be outside of the more traditional look and feel. These are films that masterfully blend elements of other genres, such as action or horror, with trademarks from the genre.

They can be any genre, any tone, and any style, as long as they depict a character maturing.
