i looked away for a minute and then a clown appeared behind her and i legit left my body for a sec otherwise it was boring as hell white people are fucking crazy
I was living in the Land of Constantly Checking How Much Time is Left on this Fucking Movie while watching this.
Kinda was unexpected that this came online, and let's just say it was pretty darn boring...I mean granted it wasn't the worst thing I've ever seen. But the fact nothing ever happens throughout this movie really hurts it, also the clown voice is seriously terrible. Like "what were they thinking" terrible....
I gotta say, for a low-budget, found footage, indie flick this looks amazing! The colors are vibrant and the locations look gorgeous! As for the plot, this is one horror fans have seen before: a tourist's friend is kidnapped by psychos that want her to play a game if she wants her to live. It's not terrible, but to be honest, not a whole lot happens.
Land of Smiles tries to play up the tension and suspense but, for me, it didn't work. Up until the third act, I was fairly invested. The characters are interesting enough and, as I said, this is a visual treat. There are also a few genuinely creepy moments--especially if you're afraid of clowns!
All in all, this is worth a rental and a one-time watch if you're a fan of found footage or the premise sounds at all interesting to you. Keep your expectations low and if nothing else, enjoy the pretty scenery.
A movie that feels like it's just trying to make it to a marketable length for a feature film and calls it good. Plodding and pointless.
Oh my GOD this movie was bad! It added so much unneeded padding to a story that seemed so strong, they just wanted it to be 90 minutes for some damn reason. There's a LOT of good ideas in here, they just don't explore them. These poorly written characters, with the worst motivations and horrible acting, get long moments of re-establishing a thought they had four or five times previously. There's effort here but it's spent in the wrong places, having bad actors doesn't mean the characters have to suck - but they did. It was just a horrible experience made worse by the fact it was so long and dragging its feet that you checked the clock every two minutes thinking it had been ten or fifteen.
