"You don't look much like the camping type."
It was almost there.
It's like The Blair Witch Project if you remove the found footage aspect and replace the witch with vampires. It has an interesting premise, but the script kept getting in the way. First, it showed its cards too early, so the twist wasn't surprising at all. And the one person who knows what is going on doesn't interject at all. The main character suffers from leukemia, and I thought that could have been used interestingly, and it does, but it's part of the early exposed twist.
I also had issues with buying Mike Beckingham and Tatjana Inez Nardone as a loving couple. Individually, they were fine, but the…
As it is now officially 'Frightfest Week' I am trying to watch as many Frightfest films I have previously missed due to clashing with other films. REDWOOD was one that seemed to arrive at Frightfest with a bit of a buzz, playing in one of the Discovery screens (smaller screens that are still including in your weekend FrightFest pass but is often a free for all for tickets) it was soon one of the first to sell out.
After watching REDWOOD, I am not sad I missed it the first time around, there is a fun film here but not a consistent or particularly entertaining one. It has clunky dialogue, an awkwardness and a clinginess of inspirations never allowing it…
There was some real potential here for this 'Blair Witch Project' meets 'The Descent' with a dash of 'Thirty Days of Night' thrown in for good measure. But sadly it just wasn't realised thanks to its far too lean a run time, a lack of interest in the underlying mythos and a leading pair that just never convinced.
Josh (Mike Beckingham, Simon Pegg's brother no less) has just received a leaukemia diagnosis. So he and his girlfriend Beth (Tatjana Nardone) take off for a weekend camping to try and clear their heads and start to try and find whats really important to them in life. After a strange run in with a park ranger who warns them to stick to…
the idea was good but the acting, pacing and a few other things really make it hard to enjoy
This film really could have been something great, the idea is very good,. But the film manages to be a film that is lacking in genuine terror and an underdeveloped story with no good performances. Redwood had a very interesting idea, but it didn’t explore it to the fullest and it was just a horror film that was an awful mess. I really wanted to like the film, but this one just didn’t offer anything. The film looks cheap, is poorly acted and directed and is a waste of time. The film could easily have been great, but unfortunately, the film never became anything worthwhile. The problem with the film is that it has a good idea, but the direction…
second half absolutely saved this from poor dialogue and a boyfriend being a little bitch
Normally films that are based in a surrounding wooded area are films that are actually quite suspenseful but this was not that at all. Technically it was just highly laughable at how crap this actually was. Nothing new, nothing more than I have already seen before either. Horror for me is just not what it used to be, I used to be so in love with the genre but I'm falling back out of love with it again.
One great moment when the protagonist looks out of the tent and sees a figure in the woods. Also, a very welcome cameo appearance.
Can't decide who was worse in this: Tatjana Cardone or Muzz Khan. And both actually have CVs! This isn't their first rodeo.... bizarre!
Oh yeah, this is bad. Very bad. Can't even go into it, would feel like such a waste of energy.
The fact it was only 80 mins long didn't even help with how bad it was.
Half a point for making me laugh at how ludicrous it was.
Plodding low budget horror that is also low on thrills, chills and surprises. It's short running time means it doesn't outstay it's welcome. It's dullness means it won't live long in the memory either.
