every time i watch this i fall in love with fourth grade.. just want to hang out with him & his gecko and encourage him to make his strong baby film 😔
“you’re just a little fucking kid”
i’ve been avoiding reviewing this for days. don’t get me wrong, at first i was enjoying this on the surface, but underneath, i found it dry and lifeless. the only source of true energy is what the kids bring to the table and the natural chemistry they bounce around during a scene. otherwise, it fell completely flat. the throwback style of the grainy and colorless variety gets old fast. the plot is non-existent and the dialogue mostly made me wince
but the ugliest part is how it lacks direction after the first few scenes try to entice: what clearly tries to be an honest portrayal of a young boy (that shows only truth, free…
"The bible is pro-cigarettes man. Jesus smoked cigarettes"
"Yeah? What kind of cigarettes did he smoke?"
"Jessus smoked Kools man"

the scene where the girl takes stevie into the bedroom and basically r*pes him reminded me a lot of the scene in eighth grade where riley tries to get kayla to hook up with him in the back of his car..... only difference was everyone in the audience literally cheered when stevie left the bedroom in mid90s whereas everyone breathed a sigh of relief when kayla stood up for herself in eighth grade. i don’t know what the point of this was but i just wanted to put that out there!
