A list of adaptations that change the time and setting. They can be faithful adaptations or just draw heavy inspiration from the source material, but the connection has to be clear.

I've included notes that indicate the original source material. Inclusion on the list does not indicate endorsement. Please let me know if there are films I should add to the list!

Some thoughts:

-I've included King Kong (1976) and Kong: Skull Island, because they adhere so much to the story structure of the original, but change it's setting. Godzilla (1998) and Godzilla (2016) are not included because they divert so much from the original story. (Godzilla slowly attacks one town while evolving and growing stronger.) However, Shin Godzilla (2016) does adhere closely to the original, but is modernized to have it's values and themes reflect the times. Hence it's inclusion.
