Though it's rare for franchise films, sequels, or other such films to have much leeway at the Oscars, it does occasionally happen that films that are part of larger franchises or series get some attention from the Academy.
I will not be including short films here, as, especially in the early history of many of the short awards, they were dominated by films from ongoing series. For example, it was rare for a year to go by without a Silly Symphonies or Merry Melodies cartoon to get a Best Animated Short nomination in the first decade or two of the award.

I will be including films that were released and that then did so well they later got sequels, even if the sequels themselves never got nominated for Oscars, simply because sometimes people aren't even aware that certain movies have sequels and that's interesting to note.
I will also be including movies that aren't part of narratives series but were still marketed together as being part of a larger series, were produced together as part of larger series. A good example would be the Broadway Melody series which have no narrative link but were produced with the same continuous concept in mind.
The franchise with the most entries nominated for Oscars is the MCU. Fifteen MCU films have been nominated for a total of twenty-seven Oscars and have won three. The only other franchises to have ten or more films nominated for Oscars are Star Wars (11) and James Bond (10). The only other franchises with five or more would be Star Trek (7), the Wizarding World (7), and the Middle-Earth Series (6).
