These are the Oscar nominated films that depict LGBT+ characters. I am only including films where a major character is explicitly stated or depicted to be LGBT+, meaning I will be excluding films that rely on coding rather than outright depiction. Whether the performer was actually LGBT+, whether the performer was nominated for an Oscar, whether the director or writers were LGBT+, whether the film is a good representation of LGBT+ lives, none of that is taken into consideration. Only if an LGBT+ character has a major impact on the film.

Whether the performer was actually LGBT+, whether the performer was nominated for an Oscar, whether the director or writers were LGBT+, whether the film is a good representation of LGBT+ lives, none of that is taken into consideration. In fact, it is important to note that many of these are very bad representations of LGBTQ+ lives, with films such as Psycho and Silence of the Lambs being included here. These films depict LGBTQ+ people in villainous and degenerate roles, though with these films specifically, the two trans characters are said to not "truly" be trans by characters in universe. Still, there is no denying that these characters do not fit the usual gender binary and so films that fall into that specific category are also still included.
The point is, being included on this list does not mean these films should be looked at as positive representation of LGBTQ+ people at the Oscars. This is merely a collection of all the films that prominently featured LGBTQ+ lives, positively or negatively, at the Oscars. In the history of cinema, it's important to acknowledge the failings just as much as the successes and many of these films are failings.
The specific identity does not have to be specified. So long as it is made explicitly clear that a character exists somewhere on the spectrum, be it through their flirtations with characters who aren't of the opposite gender, through some form of experimentation with their own gender identity, or through them explicitly stating that they're LGBTQ+. As long as there is no doubt of the LGBTQ+ status of the character, it counts.
