Cinematically, this doesn’t deserve the fairly high score I’m giving it. I adore the characters, though, and I really like how it deals with modern technology through the titular fanfic. The trans discussion here is very Polish, which is a rather different culture than that of America. It makes for an engaging watch. It’s also a film that shows a dad my age dealing with his struggle to connect to a teenage daughter my daughter’s age—and that’s relatable even if it’s not the main point.
As a teacher, I enjoyed the moment of the students coming together to defend themselves against the teacher obsessed with dress code and appearance. Personally, I ignore the dress code as much as possible. Dress however you want, kids—just learn!
