Nope.
If you only watch one island-set horror movie from Blumhouse this year make it SWEETHEART. If you insist on watching two... make it SWEETHEART twice.
Prey stalks its victims by offering a suspense-free horror flick that seems more idyllic than terrifying. Y’know, when I temporarily go insane or witness a traumatic incident, I openly discuss my feelings with a therapist or spend the day watching films involving eternal happiness. Had I been referred to a behavioural rehabilitation programme that sends its clients to a supposedly uninhabited island for three days for the purpose of “finding myself”, with only your survival instincts equipped, well I’d probably be a much different person than I am now. These are psychologically disturbed characters, granted the freedom of an entire island, to do whatever the heck they want. Build a campsite, create some intricate traps, slaughter the local wildlife and…
why would they leave teenagers alone on an island that they know nothing about for 3 days?
After my last movie, I think any movie would seem good after it. That might be why I liked this one more than the average person it seems. The story is a bit far-fetched at first. Leaving troubled teens on a deserted island by themselves for three days in order to reflect on how they got there. The main character ignored his dad who ended up getting killed while a couple of guys stole his car. The son, the main character, came out and found his dad. He soon learns there is a girl close to his age along with her mother on the island as well. The longer he is there, the secrets about the island's past come to…
“Now you’re each gonna camp on a different island by yourself. Three days and three nights.”
Spooktober 2019: #16
i don’t even remember exactly why i was so excited about this. maybe the plot smelled of folk horror but i might also have seen an early poster of it like a year ago that intrigued me. i think this was actually shelved for quite a while? wouldnt be surprised if true
Khalfoun struggles to depart from the usual island horror tropes and trips time and time again. uninspired. and what is it with these jarring flasbacks? very predictable and oddly paced story, and the dialogue feels incredibly awkward. Logan Miller is just plain bad and i usually like him in anything he stars. Froseth is underwhelming as well but def the better of the two.
Weird and uninspired. There are some interesting scenes to squeeze out, but overall it’s bad. Not recommended.
What do you do when you witness a horrific murder while being a teenager? You're sent to an island and survive Cast Away style. Director Khalfoun instead of taking advantage of the shitty premise to just go wild with a horror story just serves twists and turns that don't worth a damn. Rips off The Beach so badly its not even worth discussing. The dumb evil monster angle in the last 25 minutes is pure amateur crap. And the ending is....oh fuck it!
FRIGHT-WEEN 2🎃20
31 Days of Halloween - October 17
Come and meet the ugly triplet of Blumhouse's Fantasy Island and Sweetheart !
Ouch, it has been a while that I saw a bad lead, but I blame it on the clams ! No, I didn't like the acting of Logan Miller in this film, it was miles off what it should have been. Look up "The Good Neighbor", there he's on par with his role. Kristine Froseth, the true star of this movie, had a young Milla Jovovich vibe going on !
In a nutshell, a weird crossbreed vehicle of "The Blue Lagoon, Expedition Robinson and Survival Island" done by the director of P2 and Maniac remake.
You may redirect this soulless wannabe tv-movie to your "to skip" pile ! You won't be missing much !
What happened with Franck Khalfoun? P2 is a really stylish, fun, gory slasher. Maniac is a modern masterpiece, like one of the best horror films of the decade. And then? iLived... Amityville: The Awakening... and now Prey. It's not just a reduction in quality, it's like a whole different filmmaker - there's not even a trace of the flair that defined his first two films in his last three. It's WEIRD just how crappy they are versus how good those first two were.
Prey is about a teenager (Logan Miller) whose parents get killed so he (in a blink-and-you'll-miss-it scene that probably needed more time to sell the idea) is sent off to a remote island in Malaysia to sit…
