I wasn't able to see any Spike Lee movies when they first premiered (especially She's Gotta Have It) but I remembered the cultural significance of this being a black kid in elementary school. Fast forward a lot of years and I finally get to see it. It's fantastic, one I will revisit again and again and again.

Girl, Interrupted
★★★ Rewatched

Was great the first time I watched it. I lived at the parts of that hospital you don't see in the film. I got there at the end of April in 1999 and was one of the youngest patients they'd ever had.

So on first watch after getting out, it was my favorite sad girl movie. I watched it so many times that in certain moments in conversations I'll quote some of the film's most quotable quotes:

"That's fucked up…

Bloody Sunday

Visceral. I don't really cry at cinema or TV but this hurt. The scene of the people surrendering being shot dead was too much. It fucked me up the whole night after watching.

I'm good with violence and gore resulting from violence but something like this speaks to my humanity like no other film I've watched.

The Big Short

I liked this a lot. Ryan Gosling and Christian Bale were my favorite characters, Bale for that anal Bateman type energy he brought to the role and Gosling's comedic timing is one of the best in Hollywood. He made me laugh and lately that shit ain't easy to do.

I felt the message come across a little heavy-handed at the end. Didn't realize this was an adaptation of a Michael Lewis book. He writes about Wall Street almost exclusively so this makes sense.
