Fréamhacha: roots. Tangled, twisted, anchoring. This is a story about the roots of the Irish people, specifically Irish women, as well as a modern take on Irish (fair) folk horror. Very cool to see a film almost entirely in Irish. Clare Monnelly and Brid Nà Neachtain were great as the two leads. I spent some time in Ireland when I was younger, and loved seeing the familiar (albeit spookier than I remember) sights. I didn't find it especially scary (except for the red door), but the story and its allusions to history worked well for me.
