Egg babies aside, thereβs nothing more dystopian than forcing our British actors to put on a Murican accent; please, for the love of gawd, if itβs not necessary, let them speak in their natural dulcet tones! Chiwetel Ejiofor gets away with it however π
It wouldnβt surprise me that we would be allowed to hatch our own babies out of eggs in the future. Never have I ever been this grateful that I donβt live in such an era (yet), as it terrified me more to see this happening?! I donβt plan to have kids today or anytime soon, but it was jarring to see egg-form babies. Like, this is the βpreferredβ method in The Pod Generationβs world and resulted in me feeling relieved about being able to choose an experience of childbirth. But being forced to not?Β Gawd, I canβt believe what Iβm saying either; the human body is both miraculous and traumatic. Eggs areβ¦egg-ing; I really canβt shake off the terror of it all clashing in an unnatural pastel-toned future.
Peak humour when you need an 18-digit code to break the egg, like a freakinβ digital game card or a shopping voucher. Or HR calling you up on a violation because your egg is disturbingly distracting. And donβt get me started about the massive AI eye βtherapistβ. Everything about this was disquieting, from the cold, corporate mechanisms in place from conception to βbirthβ and to the muted expression of βparenthoodβ. I feel there were a lot of interesting ideas, but never quite cracked the surface to dip into the yolk-y discomfort of it all.
