Scavenger Hunt Master List
The Prompts:
01. Autumn is in the air (if you're in the northern hemisphere). Watch a movie that is set during this season. Here's a list if you need help finding one.
02. I feel films with LGBT+ themes are underrepresented in past hunts. Watch a movie where the lead or a major character is a lesbian.
03. Living in Los Angeles has been weird, especially the fact that Jeff Goldblum is a neighbor. Watch a film starring Jeff Goldblum
04. One of the first films I worked on was called Skills Like This, which won the audience award at SxSw. Watch a film that won an audience award at a film festival.
05. My watchlist is getting too big. Randomize your own watchlist and watch one of the films from the first row. If you don't have a watchlist, watch one of mine.
06. Kevin Smith was influential in inspiring me to move to LA and try my hand at writing. After his heart attack he went vegan, so watch a film about food.
07. Podcasts are another great joy, as are bad movies, so watch a film that has been covered in the How Did This Get Made podcast.
08. The most prominent representation of the LGBT+ in film has been gay men. Watch a movie with a gay male lead or major character.
09. While I think you can learn things from scripted films, I have an affinity for documentaries. Watch a documentary on a subject you're interested in.
10. I'm a collector of alternative movie posters and art prints. Some of my favorite artists are Ise Anaphada, Greg Ruth, Rory Kurtz, Tula Lotay, and Gabz. Check out their profiles linked and watch a movie they've done artwork for. Or to know about the AMP world watch the doc 24 x 36.
11. It's scary movie season! Watch a psychological horror movie, or any non-slasher.
12. I'm a sucker for teen comedies and coming-of-age films. Watch a film from either of these genres when you would have been released while you were in high school
13. There are so many awesome shorts out there. Watch a film that is under 30 minutes
14. I recently went back to school (after dropping out when my short film was banned). I've left the film business and am working towards becoming a social worker. Watch a movie where a character plays a social worker or tackles a social issue. Here's a list to help you out.
15. There are so few examples of bi people in film, as bi people in real life are seen as straight if they're in a hetero relationship or gay if in a homosexual one. Watch a movie with a bisexual character.
16. I love sketch comedy and have even submitted a writer's packet to SNL. Watch a movie based on an SNL character/sketch, or watch a movie with an actor/actress who were on SNL.
17. Working in the film industry was interesting to see how everything comes together and it's amazing any film ever is made. Watch a movie that is a "behind-the-scenes" look at a industry you're interested in.
18. Speaking of it being amazing that any film ever gets made, the fact people can make movies for such small sums of money is an amazing accomplishment. Watch a microbudget film ($20,000 per SAG/AFTRA).
19. I've had a lot of issues with a surgery I had back at the end of March and I've been in and out of the hospital more times than I ever thought I would be. Heck, I've been under anesthesia for almost a day and halfs worth of time in the last 18 months. Watch a movie that takes place in a hospital or medical setting.
20. I love getting recommendations from friends on movies they think I'll love. Ask a friend to recommend a film they think you'll give five stars, or watch one of my current favorites, or pick from the favorites of one person you follow.
21. My biggest inspiration as a storyteller is Stephen King. A highlight of my career was being on a notes call with him even though the film never went forward. Watch a movie based on a Stephen King novel or short story.
22. Trans characters have usually been used as a joke, a dead sex worker, or a drug user. Thankfully the tides are starting to change and we're finally having some proper representation on the screen. Watch a movie with a trans character in the lead or a major part of the movie that is actually played by a trans performer.
23. The house I currently live in was built by Charlie Chaplin for his mother. Watch a Charlie Chaplin film, or any silent film comedy.
24. Another interesting thing about the house, it was originally built near the corner of Sunset and La Brea, where Chaplin Studios was, but now the Jim Henson Studios stands. Watch a muppet movie, and if you've watched them all, watch any movie with a puppet in it.
25. After the house was moved, it was owned by Peter Lorre for a while, and the owner has a picture of him with Marilyn Monroe there. Watch a film starring eithe Peter Lorre or Marilyn Monroe
26. Okay, last thing about the house, I swear. The room I currently live in was the childhood room of Keanu Reeves, as it is owned by my mentor, who was his step-father for a short time and his first manager in the business. Watch a film starring Keanu Reeves before he was in The Matrix.
27. The year is almost over, so use this slot to watch a film released this year that you haven't seen yet.
28. I don't count anything I saw before I graduated high school as a rewatch, as our tastes change as we get older. Rewatch a film you saw when you were a child that you loved and see if it still holds up. If you don't do any rewatches, you can pick any prompt and repeat it here with a second choice.
29. The final part of the LGBT is the + sign. Some would say it's a Q and a plus sign, but I didn't want to put you through six LGBTQ+ films. Plus, some people don't agree what the Q stands for. For this prompt, watch a film with the lead or major character who falls under anything that can be the + (e.g. asexual, 2 spirit, intersex, etc.)
30. I'm trying to complete the birth year challenge before my next birthday. While this prompt has been done before, watch a movie from your birth year.
31. It's Halloween!!!! Watch a movie from the Halloween franchise or a horror movie that takes place on a holiday that isn't Halloween.
