HoopTober begins again.
Last year I stumbled upon HoopTober: a horror movie challenge by legendary Letterboxd user Cinemonster. Each year, Cinemonster creates very specific criteria for movie buffs to curate a list of movies to watch and review between September 15th and October 31st.
I used the opportunity to not just watch 31 (mostly) iconic horror movies between September 15th and October 31st, but I also challenged myself to be healthier and lost over thirteen pounds.
I enjoyed the challenge so much last year that this year I wanted to spend HoopTober tracking my productivity as a whole. There are a lot of things I want to do with my life, and being healthier is just one of them. Like…
HoopTober begins again.

I enjoyed the challenge so much last year that this year I wanted to spend HoopTober tracking my productivity as a whole. There are a lot of things I want to do with my life, and being healthier is just one of them. Like last year, I'll have only two goals:
Goal #1 - Be more productive. For every minute I spend watching a movie for HoopTober, I will spend one minute doing one of the following activities:
- Budgeting (calories or cash)
- Exercising
- Cleaning
- Reading (only nonfiction books on health or film)
- Writing
Goal #2 - Watch and review 31 horror movies. I am a single thirty-one-year-old. Watching and reviewing 31 horror movies in 47 days should be easy.
This year I included three bonus films that will be in theaters during October. If I can see them, great. If not, oh well!
Updates will come in the form of Letterboxd blog posts. I will give an update on Goal #1 and review a film as part of Goal #2.
The viewing order is worst to best according to Letterbox, but adjusted for the second film in a series so that I can watch 1st and 2nd films back-to-back. The order puts the 2nd film as priority. I limited the list to films I have not yet reviewed on Letterboxd.
Please refer to the notes to see how I hit all of this year's requirements.
Welcome to HoopTober VIII (The Ocho): The Horrors of Adulthood.
I’ll see you on the other side.
