Let us gather and witness horrors once more. Cinemonster has once more summoned his annual horror challenge.
31 films for each day in October, to be completed by the end of Halloween night. As per my tradition, all films are new to me, so no rewatches here. Probably won't do many (if any) reviews, but we'll see.
The challenge criteria and my selections are as follows:
6 Countries:
Australia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Japan, Hong Kong, Italy, Russia, Spain, Thailand, the UK, and the USA are represented, for a total of 12 countries.
8 Decades:
Every decade is covered from 1940s through 2020s, for a total of 9 decades.
2 Folk Horror:
November (2017)
Penda's Fen (1974)
Robin Redbreast (1970)
Sator…

Robin Redbreast (1970)
Sator (2019)
The Stone Tape (1972)
Viy (1967)
The White Reindeer (1952)
I've been digging into the Folk Horror genre lately, both literary and film, so I'm gonna take this convenient opportunity to scratch a few off the list.
4 Films from 1981:
Hell Night (1981)
Kung Fu Zombie (1981)
Omen III: The Final Conflict (1981)
Roadgames (1981)
2 Films from Your Birth Year (1985):
Cut and Run (1985) Turns out this technically came out in 1984, so I'm adding in The Oracle (1985)
Evils of the Night (1985)
2 Haunted House Films:
The Entity (1982)
The House that Screamed (1969)
The Worst Part 2 You Haven't Seen (as ranked by Letterboxd):
Birdemic 2: The Resurrection (2013)
1 Film Set in the Woods:
Killing Ground (2017)
Sator (2019)
1 Kaiju or Kong Film (not Godzilla vs. Kong):
King Kong (1976)
2 Hammer Films:
Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde (1971)
Taste of Fear (1961)
3 Films with a PoC Director or Lead (excluding Asian):
Candyman (2021)
Da Sweet Blood of Jesus (2014)
Def by Temptation (1990)
3 Asian Films:
Kung Fu Zombie (1981)
One Cut of the Dead (2017)
Shutter (2004)
Tag (2015)
And 1 Tobe Hooper Film (There must ALWAYS be a Hooper film):
I'm Dangerous Tonight (1990)
Really starting to run out of accessible options for old Tobe. Next year it might be time for a rewatch.
EXTRA CREDIT:
J.D.’s Revenge (1976)
The Scooby-Doo Project (1999)
The Skull (1965)
Ended up replacing The Night House with Malignant due to availability, and watching The Oracle since Cut & Run is incorrectly listed as a 1985 film.

This is my 7th Hoop-Tober, and I hope to see many more. As always, many thanks go to Cinemonster for delivering year after year (after year!). Can't wait to check out everyone's lists and hopefully finding some new hidden gems.
