Legacy of Horror ‘26
6/52

Tenebre is a blast, packed with brilliant stylistic choices, a tense and intriguing narrative, and an absolutely banging score (I’m a real slut for a funky synthesiser. Simonetti-Pignatelli-Morante don't miss!!)

The story follows horror author Peter Neal during a publicity trip to Rome to promote his new novel, Tenebrae; however, upon his arrival, he is made aware of a local woman’s murder which was seemingly inspired by the content of his book. This singular case soon spirals into a series of murders targeting women the killer considers ‘perverse.’

The camera work and design of all the kills were utterly captivating and incredibly well crafted—a true sensory delight! I just loved the aesthetics and vibe of the whole thing. I’m really intrigued by Argento’s filmmaking style and am excited to check out more of his work as well as more gialli in general as I work through my watchlists this year.

This is definitely my favourite Argento so far (granted, I’ve only seen this and Suspiria) so please comment if you have a recommendation for which film of his I should check out next!
