Welcome to Scavenger Hunt 80! I joined LB and discovered the scavenger hunts right at the beginning of the pandemic and it has been a constant source of joy ever since. I’ve been exposed to so many films I never would have watched otherwise. I’m excited to get to host this month and hope my prompts bring you some of that same joy I have experienced. Thanks to ZoeyRose for hosting last month!

Master Scavenger Hunt list
Prompts:
I’m going to start out with some of my favorite genre films.
1. My absolute favorite genre is the heist film. I can watch the worst heist film and still have an awesome time. Here’s a list I made to give you some inspiration.
2. Closely related to the one above is a gambling/casino film. I have spent a fair amount of time in casinos and always love seeing that lifestyle depicted on screen.
3. My first love in life was baseball. I played baseball from when I was 5 years old all the way through college. Watch a film about baseball. Here’s a list I made.
4. I live in Houston, space city. I love movies about space so we’re going to watch one here.
5. We Texans are proud of our state (current governor excluded) and I get excited when we’re depicted in a movie. Watch a movie that is set in Texas.
6. I’m sort of a history buff. When I travel to new cities I always do the “boring” history of the city tour and try to learn as much as I can about how a place came to be. Watch a movie that involves US history.
7. Second to heist films, nothing quite hits like a courtroom drama, I love em. Watch a courtroom drama here.
Now we’re going to take a trip through my cinematic journey.
8. Growing up there was only one type of movie that I would watch. When I found one I liked I would watch it over and over and over. My copies of Dumb and Dumber, Happy Gilmore, The 40 Year Old Virgin, and Old School are worn out. Watch a “dumb” comedy.
9. The only other type of movie that would interrupt my dumb comedy binge were Bond movies. I would always watch the TBS marathon every year and this was the first time I found value in older movies. Plus Goldeneye came out on N64 in my prime video game playing years and I was totally hooked. I was hoping this would coincide with the new Bond release, but we’re pretty close anyway. Watch a Bond movie.
10. Once I grew up a little I started paying attention to the Oscars. Say what you will about this awards show, but it is how most of the country ever hears about some of the movies we cherish on this app. I started a tradition where I would watch every best picture nominee each year and I’ve mostly succeeded at that. My next goal is to watch all nominees for all categories in a single year which I have yet to accomplish but still have hopes. Watch an Oscar winner from your favorite Oscar category (mine is Best Original Screenplay)
11. My favorite thing to look for now in movies is great cinematography. Watch an Oscar winner in the Best Cinematography category.
12. Nowadays I love listening to podcasts that talk about movies. I pretend I’m part of the conversation and angrily yell at the podcasters or nod in agreement with them. My favorite podcast currently is The Big Picture podcast. I’ve put together a list of all the directors that Sean has interviewed and which film they were brought on to talk about. Watch anything on this list.
13. The Ringer also puts out The Rewatchables which is exactly what it sounds like. Watch a film covered on The Rewatchables podcast. (Took someone else's list this time)
14. My life goal (film category) is to complete the 1001 Films to See Before You Die list. I am…...not close. Generate a random number from 1 - 1001 and watch that film off the 1001 Films to See Before You Die list
15. I don’t read much, but I follow Shea Serrano on Twitter and he wrote a book called Movie and Other Things and I immediately picked up a copy. Watch any movie covered in this book. LIST
16. Watch a film directed by the same director as one of my Top 4.
My favorite prompts from past months are one’s where I can use LB’s functionality to find the film so I thought I’d try to make a few prompts that take advantage of LB’s robust search feature.
17. I wish I had seen more foreign films before but Parasite’s win really got me invested in foreign films of all types. My favorites are still Korean movies so let’s watch a movie from Korea here.
18. Many people will say the 70s is the best decade of cinema. I haven’t watched nearly enough films from that decade so let’s watch a movie from the 70s.
19. I have completed quite a few director filmographies but am definitely still trying to complete more (Soderbergh you prolific bastard.) Watch a film from a director whose filmography you have been wanting to complete.
20. Watch a film that has been recently reviewed by a person you follow.
21. I have discovered Kurosawa and Hitchcock and have developed a deep love for both of these filmmakers since joining LB. Watch any Kurosawa or Hitchcock film.
22. My least favorite genres are Western, War, and horror. I’m forcing myself to watch one of these on the hunt in hopes of finding more that I like from them. Watch any Western, War, or horror film.
23. 3 of my favorite movie years are 1980, 1994, and 2007. Pick one of those years, sort by not watched, and watch one of the top 5.
24. Films that become my favorites always have a great script. Watch a film with the same writer as the top 4 of someone you are following.
The last set of prompts are just some odds and ends that didn’t fit anywhere else.
25. It’s Thanksgiving! Eat a lot of turkey and gather the family around for a movie. If your family has a thanksgiving movie tradition, watch that here. If not, watch a movie that features a family gathering together in some way.
26. One genre of film I haven’t fallen in love with yet is the Silent film. I love Charlie Chaplin but haven’t been able to connect to anything else. I’m going to keep trying though, let’s watch a film from the silent era here.
27. Watch a movie featuring a celebrity playing themselves.
28. Watch a movie that spent at least 1 week at number 1 domestic box office the year you were born.
29. The only thing I don’t like about the Scavenger Hunts is that it takes time away that I could spend watching new releases. I have seen a decent amount of new movies this year, but I’d like to watch more. Let’s watch a movie that debuted this year, 2021.
30. I know a lot of people like to do all “new to them” movies on these hunts, but I think there is a lot of value in rewatching and I always include a few on my hunts. Use this final prompt to rewatch a movie you’ve been meaning to rewatch for a long time.
That’s it! Hope everyone has a great month and thanks in advance for joining in! If any of these prompts don't flight your fancy feel free to watch anything off your watchlist or my watchlist.
