In Mohammad Ali Talebi's Bag of Rice, we watch Jairan (aged four, played by herself) as she accompanies her elderly neighbour Masume on an errand to buy a bag of rice. They have quite the adventure getting to the grocer (and back!) over the course of a damp and chilly day in Tehran. I loved the scenes where Masume and Jairan inaudibly asked strangers for help as traffic zoomed by in the foreground - that was a neat way to highlight the whirlwind of activity in the city.
A sweet story about neighbours helping each other out, and a good pick for those who like seeing small children go on Big Adventures. I found it a bit slow early on, but this is a very cute film that'll put a smile on your face.
