“You haven't changed a bit! You're still the most beautiful girl in the whole wide world!”
“You can’t escape from yourself.”
👏🏼OMG, where do I even start??
🫠I watched this movie on saturday and literally needed almost two days to process it and start writing this review. I’ve got a lot to say!
💉I actually had no idea what The Substance was even about, but I had high expectations since I knew it had very high ratings. It went even beyond my expectations — so, so good! I also didn’t expect it to be so gory..man, was I wrong.
💄The performance of every actor in this movie is phenomenal. I loved Elisabeth as a character way more than Sue, but I found Sue’s side of the story more interesting to watch —
🎶Pump it up, you better pump it up!! 🎶
🍸At the start, Elisabeth annoyed me, but as the movie went on, I started feeling sorry for her, especially because of how she ended up. That was probably one of the hardest watches ever — not even bc of the blood and gore, but bc it simply made me sad. She wasn’t a bad person, and I don’t think she is completely to blame for everything.
🌴Society and its standards negatively affected her, including that fuckass Harvey who only made it worse.
💖Fred actually deserved the world, he was such a cutie pie. I loved him from the moment he showed up on screen, and I really wish she had gone to that dinner so we could’ve seen more of them. They could’ve been the happy endgame she needed!
🧪The effects and cinematography really are that great. I felt glued to the screen the entire time, waiting for the next thing to happen. I’d say this is a well deserved Best makeup Oscar (and hopefully The Ugly Stepsister wins it this year🤞🏻).
