Legacy of Horror ‘26
4/52
Ginger Snaps caught me off guard in the best possible way! I'm absolutely kicking myself for not picking this up when I saw it on the shelf at Blockbuster back in the day, teenage me would have been utterly obsessed.
Puberty wreaks total havoc on our bodies and brains and I think this would have brought me so much comfort during those years. Werewolves are actually the perfect metaphor for getting your first period: a fuck ton of blood, coarse hair everywhere, severe shifts in mood, being in sync with the lunar cycle, tails, all of it!
Viewing notes:
• As a formerly angsty teenage girl I vibe insanely hard with the opening credits sequence
• I'm obsessed with the sardonic attitude and general vibe of these sisters
• That stare from Ginger after "we should get together" was lethal, I'm obsessed
• The horror of being a woman can only be topped by the horror of being a teenage girl
• Ugh I have such a deep love for coming-of-age horror
• Multiple people are casually throwing around the word 'lycanthrope' in place of werewolf—is that common knowledge?? I've never once heard that so I must be super out of the loop on my mythical creature trivia. Very uncultured of me.
• Those white/silver streaks that appear in her hair are SO COOL! Since my hair is the same colour as Ginger's, I must do that immediately!
• LOL WHY DID THEY PUT THE BIGGEST HOOP EARRING THEY COULD FIND IN HER NEWLY PIERCED BELLY?!
• I loathe when periods are referred to as 'the rag.' Find whatever man coined that, resurrect him, and string him up to die again for his crimes
• So what's with Bridget and this awful, terrible, no good, very bad wig?
• Ginger is giving off mean lesbian energy, and I am super into it
• What a genuinely sweet mother, a damn cinnamon roll
• Super smart of Bridget to test the antidote on Jason. But why does he look significantly worse than Ginger?!
• That is a really good mom. She's crazy but it's for the love of her girls which is so nice. Love her for that
The practical effects in this were so fun! I've never gravitated toward any sort of werewolf story before, but this was seriously brill!
...anyone know is Katherine Isabelle is single???
