Surprised I never checked this out before, it's a neat little watch! It's cool to see this prototype version of a scene from the film that surprisingly has most of the same dialogue intact. It also made me appreciate the lighting, editing, and especially Miles Teller's performance in the film even more cause this kid...ain't that great
no offence but damien chazelle created more tension in these 18 minutes than alfred hitchcock did in his entire filmography
Fletcher would be disappointed that someone who loves the 'Whiplash' feature film so much, had never taken the time to watch the original short.
The short is basically a mash-up of two early versions of the best rehearsal scenes from the feature, which include the 'whose out of tune' and 'not my fucking tempo' scenes. For this short, Writer and Director Damien Chazelle had already envisioned all his excellent fast-paced visuals that perfectly capture the feel of jazz students in class. And thank goodness he got J.K. Simmons on board to tie it all together for the iconic role of Fletcher ... which later helped Chazelle expand these scenes into his masterful feature.
Thanks for reading.
Happy movie watching ... Cheers!
