DAY TWENTY-TWO: A Krampus movie that went direct to video
Part of what I appreciate about watching bad movies is that they help me better understand what makes a movie work. I don't want to be some weirdo giving every MCU film a 1/2 star because I'm too limited in my film-watching to understand how difficult each of the parts of making a movie really end up being. I think it's a helpful process to watch a bunch of crap films. Even with that in…
Well...yeah, this was pretty bad. I chose to watch this Krampus movie first because, based on the reviews, it looked slightly better than the other ones. If that’s true....y’all....
The story was actually the best part of this. Not that that’s saying much, but still. There’s a little girl who can summon Krampus to take care of people she decides are “naughty” so it’s kind of a Christmas version of Death Note except here’s the thing: almost NOTHING in this whole movie is remotely holiday-like. I think there may be a couple of decorations in the home of the main character and, at one point, they hand out presents (wrapped in non-festive paper because f*ck you, Christmas Spirit) but that’s…
This is the best Christmas movie that I've watched today!
(I haven't watched any other Christmas movies today.)
A psychiatrist investigates an institutionalized girl's connection to the unsolved murder of her foster parents. Inexplicable killings follow the orphan as it becomes apparent she harbors an otherworldly bond with a Christmas demon that slays the wicked.
Part of a direct-to-video cycle predating Krampus (2015) that damned any real sequels from too many buying whatever Krampus-titled crap at Walmart expecting similar quality. With zero articulation, the CG hoofed demon looks at home as a bootleg Superman toy pack-in. He prefers burning his victims alive resulting in some fried spaghetti gore. But these charms succumb to the shrink and her detective beau delving into the uninteresting Mystery of the Annoyed Little Girl. Despite not having seen the other also-ran Krampuses yet, it's safe to assume this isn't the worst. Watched via Uncork'd Entertainment's DVD.
Krampus: The Reckoning (2015) is a movie I recently rewatched on Tubi. The storyline follows Zoe, a young girl who appears to be connected to a series of brutal murders. A doctor and a detective team up to uncover the truth and attempt to stop the horrifying events.
Directed by Robert Conway (Exit to Hell), the film stars Monica Engesser (The Covenant), Amelia Haberman (Krampus: Origin), James Ray (Spiked), and Owen Conway (The System).
Unfortunately, the acting and writing are abysmal, with James Ray’s performance as the police officer standing out as particularly poor. The CGI is equally dreadful, and the film lacks any engaging kill sequences or memorable gore.
This is easily the worst Krampus movie I’ve ever seen. I’d strongly recommend skipping it. My score: 1/10.
You know what I love about a Krampus story? When it's a dry as all hell police procedural where a cop and a social worker have infinite yap sessions and they keep trying to bang each other and I guess some little girl is being a bitch to everyone. Now the CGI here is award winning, you've been warned.
I think this movie literally has no sound effects or background noise like you never heard people walking or doors closing or anything it’s the weirdest thing. There’s literally a scene of them in a crowded bar and other than their dialogue it’s dead silent no music no talking no nothing.
