1. annabel 🌱🧚🏼🦖 did a great job hosting last month! Watch a film she gave 4 stars or higher.
2. One of my favorite parts of these monthly horror hunts is finding hidden gems. So let's get digging! Watch a movie from Hollie Horror's Overlooked and Underrated Horror Movies list.
3. The Criterion Sale is currently running in July and I bought way too many and I need to watch them all to justify purchasing them. Watch a horror film from the Criterion Collection.
4. Another boutique label I've recently been getting into is Vinegar Syndrome. Watch a movie released by Vinegar Syndrome.
5. One director I really want to see more of is Shinya Tsukamoto. I was really impressed by Tetsuo: The Iron Man, and if you haven't seen it I highly recommend it. Watch a film directed by Shinya Tsukamoto.
6. A lot of the biggest actors today owe their careers to early roles in horror movies. Watch a horror movie starring an actor before they became famous. This list should help.
7. I haven't seen a lot of the classic horror movies from before 1950. Watch a horror movie released before 1950.
8. Today is National Sneak Some Zucchini onto your Neighbor's Porch Day in the US! No, I'm not kidding. To celebrate this unusual holiday, watch a horror movie with an unusual antagonist. This list should help.
9. Today is National Book Lover's Day. To celebrate, watch a horror movie based on a novel or short story.
10. I really enjoy movies about religious cults. I think that it's interesting seeing different traditions and rituals and the history they have. Watch a movie about a cult.
11. One of my goals for this year is to see all of Dario Argento's films. Watch a movie directed by Dario Argento.
12. A subgenre of horror that doesn't get a lot of attention is animated horror. Films like Monster House and Coraline were two of the first "horror" movies I ever saw since my parents were strict about what I was allowed to watch. Watch an animated horror movie.
13. Now to get a little random. Go to your watchlist, filter the genre to horror and sort by "Shuffle". Then pick one of the first five films that appears.
14. Now, if you're right handed, watch a movie released ten years before your choice for #12. If you're left handed, happy International Left Handers Day! This is a free space for you.
15. Today is Liberation Day in South Korea, where they celebrate their independence from Japan. To celebrate, watch a Korean horror film.
16. On a previous horror hunt, I watched In Search of Darkness, a documentary about 80s horror. I kept having to fast forward through parts of it because they were spoiling movies I hadn't seen, so I'd like to change that. Watch a movie mentioned in the In Search of Darkness series.
17. Black Cats are an iconic symbol in the horror genre, and today is National Black Cat Day! Watch a movie about or featuring a black cat.
18. So about a year ago I made a horror watchlist for myself that was meant to focus my viewing on a subset of horror movies I really wanted to see. My goal is to be halfway through by this Halloween, and I'm not doing as well as I'd hoped. So, let's watch a movie on my list.
19. Another thing I don't see as often as I would like are horror movies that take place before the 20th century. Watch a horror movie that takes place before 1900.
20. Today is National Mosquito Day...ew. I guess we should celebrate by watching a horror movie about bugs.
21. August is a big month for horror this year, with both Candyman and Don't Breathe 2 releasing this month. I'm definitely seeing both of these, but I'm sure we could all use an opportunity to catch up on this year's releases even if you aren't interested in the films. Watch a horror movie released in 2021.
22. I'm sure you've got at least a few good movies on your list right now, so how about we add some trash? Watch one of the lowest rated horror movies on Letterboxd. Just stick to the first page, I filtered out short films and documentaries, so there's no weaseling out of this one.
23. Okay, I'm sorry (REALLY sorry if you chose Human Centipede 3). To apologize, watch one of the highest rated horror movies on Letterboxd.
24. Earlier this year, Full Moon Features had a deal where if you pay for a whole year of their streaming service, you got a free Puppet Master box set. So I did, and I have only watched one movie on the service so far. To help justify my purchase a little more, watch a movie released by Full Moon.
25. Something that is truly rare is a horror musical. Not many exist, but the ones I've seen are fantastic. Watch a horror musical.
26. I've never seen a Bollywood movie. So to fix this, watch a Bollywood horror movie.
27. I was born in 2001, and I wasn't allowed to watch horror movies until I was a teenager, so I missed out on a lot that I want to go back and see. Watch a horror movie released in the 2000s.
28. My mom is a nurse and she often shows me gnarly medical photos or tells me crazy stories. She's also the one who usually watches horror movies with me since my dad hates them. Watch a medical horror movie, or one set in a hospital.
29. A lot of my favorite horror movies were produced by A24, and there's still a few I haven't seen. Watch a horror film released by A24.
30. Today is National Frankenstein Day! Watch a Frankenstein movie.
31. Well, I go back to college on September 1st. So there's only one way to end this hunt. Watch a horror movie that takes place on a college campus.
