Tales from the Hood

Hooptober 12: 29/31

Man, I just love horror anthologies. As a kid I used to watch “Beyond Belief: Fact or Fiction” with Jonathan Frakes religously every weekend when it was on the telly. Didn’t matter if it was a rerun, didn’t matter that most stories were so cheaply produced. The fact that Mr Frakes attributed veracity to the stories by saying “Something similar happened in the 50s on the east coast” just added to its charm. It’s a comfy feeling to be presented some spooky stories by a cheeky narrator, almost like you’re gathering around the campfire.

This one has a decidedly Spike Lee-esque tone to it, which I admire. Clarence Williams III chews the scenery. All of the stories present a cool idea. The ending evokes classic Tales from the Crypt. Really solid Halloween fodder.
