Slappy McGee’s review published on Letterboxd:
The 3rd in the "From Dusk till Dawn" Trilogy.
It's actually a PREQUEL to the PREQUEL.
These movies have worked their way slowly backwards in time.
In the original film, the great character actor Michael Parks played a doomed state trooper, and in this one he plays real-life writer Ambrose Bierce (who wrote the classic "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge"). The narrative is about what happened to Bierce when he went missing and never returned from Mexico.
Apparently it involved vampires.
Danny Trejo also returns once again and remains the only actor to appear in all three films. Nice.
This movie plays exactly like a western.
...well... a western with vampires, of course.
But it has all style and sensibilities of a Mexico-set western.
Almost like a spaghetti western from back in the day.
Definitely some great action set pieces throughout the final act of the film. Ramps up the excitement quite a bit and is a hell of a lot of fun!
I also dug the story of the plot which takes some turns. Some interesting storytelling and character development. In an action vampire flick, no less. Go figure.
My 2nd favorite of the trilogy.
...heh...
