Ghoul Gruel’s review published on Letterboxd:
‘The struggle between yin and yang is omnipresent. There is no boundary between heaven and hell. Gods and ghosts are everywhere.’
Whatever I thought I was getting, it wasn’t this. Somehow so much better in terms of production and aesthetic. The story is random, grounded in traditional lore but bordering on lunacy, almost cartoonish at points but, despite the comedic tones, it’s delivered real straight. Its saving grace.
It’s also wildly inconsistent and teased some great stuff that never got properly explored. I think my expectations were low so it came out better off. I’ll never watch it again though.
Score feels like Shaft or something. Some type of exploitation crime show. It’s doing a lot. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was all lifted from other works. It’s pretty great.
Anyway, cute all up.
