Hooptober 12: 23/31

I really wanted to love this more as I’m a sucker for the giallo aesthetic but I couldn’t shake the feeling that a toddler scripted this. The Satanists: “Time to be evil and fornicate and sacrifice some puppies because we’re satanists!” The female lead: “I like to scream a lot and have perfect make-up all the time and my husband is useless!” The way everything is resolved so neatly, and with a big inheritance on top. And so on.

It’s undeniably stylish, though. The first few scenes are probably the strongest part of the film as I wondered what kind of a madman cuts from a serene sunset to this violent fever dream. Some great visuals to look at, but ultimately quite dull.
