The Vampire's Ghost
★★★

Watched 25 Oct 2025

An odd setting for a Vampire Movie: in the middle of an African village. So it kind of gives the feeling of the old "voodoo zombie" films from the era. This one stays off-kilter with a unique casting choice as the vampire. Character actor John Abbott plays the titular undead dude.

And he's pretty spot on.

The movie is very short and so it doesn't waste too much time with backstories and filler, it gets right down to it. Not too deep, but certainly interesting and somewhat enjoyable.

It looks good for film of its time and although the acting is a bit grandiose, it still works for the style here. Mainly because the Abbott works so well as the weary vampire. ("Ghost" is a bit of a misleading labeling of the title, btw).

Another interesting tidbit is the inclusion of Olympian and NFL star Jim Thorpe as one of the natives. Apparently, he did many film roles, which I did not really know before looking it up. Go figure.

Overall, this is highly watchable and enjoyable (as a film of the 40's).
