HOOPTOBER 12
ENTRY 18: 1932 film
While it is quite evident at times that there were MORE scenes in this movie (e.g. meltdown of Hans because of the card players and immediate cut to the Venus and her scene without any resolution), it still delivers an emotional punch. It's somewhat an empathy test. At first you're shocked, but I assume that's the idea, because then you begin sympathizing with the titular "freaks" and be amazed at HOW MUCH they can do with what they're given. And how little good the so-called big people do with THEIR capabilities. also, the pre-code contents threw me off at the start, kudos to Tod Browning for being a brave soul.
good stuff.
P.S. Cleo's russian accent gave me fucking WHIPLASH at times, especially when she says words like "Клеопатра" or "доктор" without any semblance of english phonetics, funny stuff
