Ghoul Gruel’s review published on Letterboxd:
“The killer is inside me.”
An unbelievably cool and clinical thriller that sets itself apart from anything else I’ve ever seen. The direction and cinematography are sharp and it’s got this eclectic dubby, electronic score and sound design which are the last thing you’d expect but it works so well. Adding to this is a striking performance by Minami.
Quiet and steady but none of it’s lazy. Everything is intentional. The closest thing I can compare it to is Manhunter. Performance and production are all class really.
The only stagger for me is the story itself. Feels like a book that lost something in adaptation. Concepts and plot points seemed peppered in, like the inference was delivered but not explained or sold. Results were gappy for me. Checked out a plot summary afterwards and it was all there, just felt far less concise when watching.
I feel like I did it a massive disservice watching a rough YouTube rip. So fucking hard to find though.
“Even I feel like killing people on Mondays.”
Me too, my dude.
