I had only ever heard about John, the Baptist through refrences here and there but had got the gist of the larger story. Seeing it unfold before my eyes in this bombastic and extravagant felt life changing. The filmmaking here makes me feel like we have regressed since the 1920s, there's so much creativity bursting out of every frame that you hardly ever get to see in modern cinema. Breathtaking!
