I had to hide this under the "SPOILERS" protection because the ending is so bizarre that it MUST be commented on!
That being said...
This has to be the first movie that I've ever seen with a genuine:
WERE-TOAD.
I mean... what the fuck, folks?!?
I shit you not.
And since it was 1953 and the budget was mighty low... they dressed some dude up in a Giant Man/Toad costume and had him squat down and do some really bad toad jumping like... like... well, like a human in a toad costume would do.
Even had the dude hopping UP some stairs.
I had this movie pegged as a 1.0 or 1.5 star film. The movie was filmed for 3D and really doesn't play now. It's very boring and has some old English drawing-room mystery type elements that never really amount to much... I mean, except for the aforementioned spoiler. So, it's not really worth the time... unless you skip to the end.
And I would have given this flick at 3.5 or more, if the Were-Toad had more than one scene. But he literally only appears for about a minute, then they make up some random excuse about him dying or some shit. We don't get to truly EXPERIENCE the glory that is the Were-Toad, so I can't rate this shit higher than halfway on the scale.
Ah wells.
But that damn Were-Toad is a beautiful, beautiful thing.
