“Sometimes… I wish the world would just hurry up and end already.”

Deep Ones condoms by Lovecrafts was a very nice touch.

Zero brain cells or patience needed for this one. This is a maximum 50% brain capacity film, and that’s only to keep up with the pace, so turn off the thinking parts.

Immediately hits with practical tentacles and a bunch of lovecraftian Zoidbergs. Hats off for putting the lore front and centre and for sticking with practical effects for 99%. Tonnes of T&A too. I only call that out to highlight that this thing commits further than its budget and digital feel would have you expect.

Still, I got bored. It’s a bit of fun but there’s very little underpinning it. Characters and story are all surface level and it doesn’t have much scale. I wasn’t connected with any of it, particularly come the last act. I also think there’s a lot to be said for the haunting atmosphere and majesty that comes with Lovecraft, and this had neither.

But it did have my boy George Stover and I didn’t even recognise him which is a massive failure on my part.
