Orphan: First Kill
★½

I thought that this movie was going to work for me.
I wanted this movie to work for me.
I was rooting for this movie to work for me.

...this movie did not work for me...

And, the main reason that it didn't work for me is a very superficial reason: There was just no way that the main actress Isabelle "Orphan" Fuhrman passes for a little kid. And the body double that we see the back of and in long shots... ain't foolin' nobody.

It was just silly distracting for me.
And it killed the movie for me.

Now - that being said - the "TWIST" that comes about halfway through the movie - ALMOST saved it for me.

Yeah... but "almost" is all. It, ultimately, did not save it for me. Mainly because it just got too silly after that. I mean, it had potential to work... but it kept flashing to the body double and I couldn't "suspend my disbelief" enough to go with it.

Ah well.

I get some people liking this - especially with the twist that comes - but I just couldn't get onboard.

Oh - by the way - the father here is Donald Sutherland's son!!! And - no, I'm not talking about Keifer! I'm talking about Rossif Sutherland - whom I've apparently seen in a few other things, but have never put "2" and "2" together. He just doesn't look like Donald and Keifer... ummmm... how to put this politely... fuck it... he's the better-looking version of the Sutherland clan. (And in this movie, he talks like a low-talking, late night DJ from back in the day... go figure).

No idea that Sutherland had another kid working in the biz.

Hm.
The more ya know.
