HOOPTOBER 12
ENTRY 10: MOVIE BASED ON A NOVEL
well, talk about the EXPECTATIONS/REALITY situation.
for years I've heard that O M G IT'S THE WILDEST SHIT THERE IS, QUENTIN TARANTINO BARFED WHILE WATCHING IT, GORE GALORE, ATOMIC TONAL SHIFT yada yada yada
in the words of Tyler the Creator:
SO THAT WAS A FUCKING LIE
I'm not gonna tell you that it's the tamest movie in the universe but first of all:
- it's just a thriller, not a batshit horror as everybody says
- the tonal shift is not so unexpected, Miike boils the viewer as if he was cooking a frog on a stove - slow and steady
it's not the grandfather of Hostel, it's a sad story about how violence breeds violence, how hate begets hate and how misuse of persons' trust makes this person distrust the whole world.
and yeah, also it's a story about men who are oblivious to the fact that woman is not an item that magically solves every problem but another (compex) human being.
p.s. bitch, you NEVER TOUCH THE DOGGO. cunt.
