Hooptober 12: 13/31

So of course I knew a few things about this film and its numerous titles, cuts, and status as a video nasty, but I was not prepared for the artistry shown in almost every shot... Man, this film is so, so grody, and it's all done so exceptionally well. The blocking is stellar, there's always something going on in the background, in the foreground. The camera slowly moving between subjects, alive and dead and undead. The score, a synth nightmare of dread.

Fulci pulled no punches in a movie that should be prime trash but it somehow came out a horror masterpiece. Let's use a live shark! Let's put our actors on fire! I wouldn't be surprised if the IMDB trivia told me that they dug up actual conquistador corpses.
