Hooptober 12: #34
[Criteria: 1 film by a Mexican or a Central American director]
One of those movies where I was more horrified by the subject of the movie than the movie itself. Not that the movie isn't bad, it's actually pretty well made and sent shivers down my spine at multiple times. The night sequences especially were brilliantly conceived and let out audible gasps at the end. But reading upon the genocide in Guatemala and the brutality and apathetic violence against the Mayans chilled my blood, absolutely fucking horrifying. This was one of the movies that I missed watching on the big screen at the local intl film festival 5 years back and I'm sort of regretting not catching this back then.
